drug testing on public assistance

Posted by Kathy Sleen on January 9, 2010 at 6:57 PM

Im concerned about HB 259. This is the one to force drug testing on people reciveing puplic assistance. I worry that this is a guise to Identify how many people need more help more Detox Rehab and Counseling. Then they will be armed with numbers and prove to the public that more funds need to go to proven losers. I say NO MORE GOVERNMENT. It is not the governments job to detox rehab and counsel the very people who partied while you worked.

I agree. No point in allowing the government to demand urine from citizens. It's bad enough already.

better yet end government funded public assistance.
Social problems should be addressed by society not government.

Food stamp cards are being used as a commodity to trade for drugs. This must be stopped. But I do not want to make a rule that applies to one class with out applying to all. Those state workers who administer these programs should be tested as well . What is good for one of us is good for all of us. In fact I want our legislature to be tested for drugs as well . I do not want someone with impaired judgement making decisions that affect us all. You've seen the video's It is a problem.
I guess my approach is all in or do nothing. Half measures don't work.

Maybe requiring an ID to verify benefits would help?If a program recipient was
caught with drugs there ID would be stamped "no soup for you" until they are proven clean. Be prepared for the children of these people entering the system though.

It's already illegal. Follow them and arrest them. Apply the laws we already have. Some of the public assistance money is federal. We have to consider federal guidelines. I don't begrudge drug addicts a basic existence. That they have public assistance cash for drugs tells me what we all know they shouldn't be allowed access to cash. For most addicts their is no solution . If their was family and freinds would have already solved it.

I certainly see your point, Kathy. But at the same time, I hate to see my money going to drug addicts (unless I choose to assist them through church/community programs). So what's the solution?

BREAKING NEWS

Steve Menard Recall - By and 2 to 1 ratio, Wasilla residents have voted to recalled  Steve Menard. Apparently the voters believe CHARACTER does matter.  It is excpected that when all the votes are counted that the number of ballots cast to recall Menard will equal or exceed the 280 votes he received to elect him into office.  Thanks CPG Wasilla members for doing the leg work to get this recall petition on the ballot.
