My mother and father were both legal immigrants to this country. It took them years, but they waited and followed the law. I'm a first generation American. That's right American, not French-American, as my parents were french. Not Mexican-American, not African-American, etc, etc. Name the nationality and add American. Why are we the only country that people do this in. If you are born here you are an American, be proud of it, don't hyphenate. I can look at you and tell by your accent if your not from here originally, I can ask and you can answer if you choose, where you were born. And if you are an immigrant that has become naturalized then I would think you'd be even more proud to be called American. WE ARE A NATIONALITY!! WE ARE OUR OWN NATION! There are immigrants all over the world in other countries, but they don't call themselves African-British, or Muslim-German. They are the nationality of the country they were either born or naturalized in. So stand up, be proud to be from this country. It doesn't matter what your skin color is, what accent you have, if you are here legally you are an AMERICAN, that's it!! And if you aren't here legally, get the hell out! Again, we are the only country that has people fighting inside our bordrs saying we should not be a sovereign nation. Hello, that is just crazy. Try going into Mexico or any other country illegally, you won't be treated near as nice in their prisons, as we treat illegals here. It's one thing to be a free nation, another to be a patsy to all who would come and misuse our generosity, or worse; do harm to us.

Thank you for your comments! We lived for 4 years in England and I never heard a single person, especially those who were born in Africa and emmigrated, refer to themselves as Afican-British or the like. I am a native American, my family was here at the creation of this great nation. I am not a tribal member, or a member of any other created ethnic group. How many years must your family live in America before you are native? Let us all remember why this incredible place was created and has endured.
